Our goal is for each kid (and grown up!) to leave with a safe, functional bike that fits them for height, has a clean/lubed chain, properly adjusted brakes, tires aired to pressure, helmet fitted and basic knowledge of how to do these things themselves. Additionally, we’ll have safe riding skills stations on riding predictably, avoiding the door zone, yielding to pedestrians, exiting driveways safely, scanning & signaling, and navigating 2-way intersections, 4-way stops and traffic circles safely.

If rain cancels on Saturday the 20th, we’ll postpone to a rain date of Sat, January 27, 1-4pm.

Target Audience: Riders of all ages, and anyone with a bike that needs some love

Sponsors:

Community Foundation of San Carlos

San Carlos Parks & Rec Foundation

Participating Organizations: San Carlos Week of the Family, Bay Area Bike Mobile, San Mateo County Office of Education, REI San Carlos, Chain Reaction Bicycles, Stanford Injury Prevention

Adult & Youth Volunteers Needed: Please consider helping out, we’ll train you but it’s very easy work and you’ll be making our community safer for everyone!

CCAG wants your opinion on bike share!

San Mateo County C/CAG is launching a new Bike and Scooter Share pilot program in Daly City and RWC/North Fair Oaks (sadly not in San Carlos for now) and wants to hear from you about alternative transportation use and potential future stations. Take the survey before Feb 5! www.bit.ly/SMCmobility4all -- More info: https://ccag.ca.gov/programs/transportation-programs/bikeandscootershare/

Good news

The Omnibike Bill took effect January 1st!

  1. Drivers must now legally change lanes when passing someone on a bike whenever feasible, as they would if passing a car.

  2. E-bikes are now allowed on most bikeways in California, while they can still be barred from hiking and equestrian trails.

  3. Bicyclists are legally allowed to cross the intersection during the pedestrian WALK signal, if that phase differs from the green light for cars.

  4. No more bicycle licensing ordinances

New Survey Opportunity on the new San Carlos Downtown, due by Fri 1/19

Express your reactions and feedback on the current consultant suggested ideas – Take survey here.

This is a great opportunity to share your reflections on refinements to the streetscape environs, which include widened sidewalks to accommodate a safe experience more conducive to walking and bicycling; reduced travel lanes, public plazas, street trees, and new public amenities that could occur within and alongside the street.

The survey includes four primary sections: a Downtown Vision Statement, Public Space Design, Program Mix (activation and use of public spaces, amenities), and Circulation and Access (how we move about downtown).

Thanks for reading & riding!
